Not just Chrome's data - I assume that Flash LSOs and HTML5 stuff and any other persistent data would be erased as well. Perfect! So I could use Chrome's regular mode with Sandboxie, close out Sandboxie when I'm done and then all my browsing activity is gone. I looked through the settings and I found where Sandboxie will allow for the sandbox's contents to be cleared when the program closes. That'll be kind of like Incognito, but not good enough. I know CCleaner will clear Sandboxie data, so I guess I could set CCleaner to run automatically when my machine starts. So Sandboxie's cache persists, that's not what I want. The browsing history from before the restart is still there. I then restarted my computer, not specifically to test Sandboxie but because of a Windows update that needed to be installed.Īfter restart, I again opened regular Chrome within Sandboxie. No surprise, but it was good to confirm it. ![]() Opened regular Chrome without Sandboxie and the browsing I had done from within Sandboxie wasn't there. ![]() To test it out, I opened regular Chrome in Sandboxie and loaded a few pages to populate the History and then closed Sandboxie. If Chome is opened in regular browsing mode within Sandboxie and then Sandboxie is closed when browsing is done, does it achieve the same results as using Chrome in Incognito mode? Really, I just wanted to compare the two methods of hiding browser activity. I know that Sandboxie stops much more data being written to my machine than Chrome's Incognito mode does, I have no confusion about how Sandboxie works or what it's doing. So, how much does using Chrome within Sandboxie resemble using Chrome Incognito mode with no Sandboxie? I'd like to recommend Sandboxie to family and friends, but first I wanted to try it out and understand how to incorporate into normal web browsing.Īfter installing Sandboxie on Windows7 and playing around with it for awhile, the thought occurred to me that since Sandboxie prevents any data (such as cookies, browsing history and cache) from being saved then maybe it could replace Incognito mode. I'm new to using Sandboxie so this post began as a learning exercise and a chance to see it in action.
